Goal

The Montgomery County Public Schools Music Program is aligned with National and State Music Education Standards.

The study of music assists in the acquisition of 21st Century Skills.  The cooperative learning setting of music ensembles allows students to develop both individually and as members of a larger community.  The creativity inherent in the creation or interpretation of a musical selection fosters creative thinking and problem-solving strategies that permeate other facets of life.  We encourage and celebrate the personal expression within every child.

"Music is one way for young people to connect with themselves, but it is also a bridge for connecting with others. Through music, we can introduce children to the richness and diversity of the human family and to the myriad rhythms of life." Daniel A. Carp, Eastman Kodak Company Chairman and CEO

Resources

Countywide Ensembles
Montgomery County Public Schools provides several opportunities for students to represent their schools in countywide ensembles.

All-County ensembles are offered to band and orchestra students in grades 6-12. The goal of All-County ensembles is to have representation from every school in the ensemble.

Honors ensembles are offered to band, orchestra, and jazz students in grades 7-12. These groups accept students by audition only and not every school may be represented.

Adjudication
Bands, orchestras, and jazz ensembles in Montgomery County Public Schools participate yearly in several district-level adjudication festivals. The Maryland Music Educators Association designates Montgomery County as District II. Bands and orchestras that receive overall superior ratings at the district adjudication are eligible to participate at the Maryland State Band and Orchestra Festivals.
