Career Readiness for students


Fire Science and Rescue

The Fire Science & Rescue Cadet program takes place at the Montgomery County Public Safety Training Academy, which is located at 8751 Snouffer School Road, Gaithersburg, MD 20879. Students from all high school clusters are eligible to apply. Rising Grade 11 students will apply to the Fire & Rescue course and rising Grade 12 students will apply to the Emergency Medical Technician course. Schedule:

Students attend class at the Public Safety Training Academy from 11:30am-1:50pm.

Transportation:

MCPS Transportation is provided to students from all 25 MCPS high schools

*NOTE* Before students are officially accepted into the program, they will need to; 
  • Pass an Occupational Medical exam with the Montgomery County Medical Examiner
  • Clear a Background Check
  • Be COVID Vaccinated

About the Program

The Fire Science and Rescue program prepares juniors and seniors for a variety of careers in fire prevention and control and emergency medical technology. Students spend part of the day in their home high school and also attend formal training at the Montgomery County Public Safety Training Academy. Students must complete a minimum of 393 hours of work-based learning and take certification exams. By the time they graduate from high school, students will have earned seven industry certifications and college credit. They can continue their postsecondary training at several colleges in the state.
