About the Program

The Computer Science Career Program of Study (POS) prepares students for further study and careers in the field of Computer Science.  This program helps to develop a student's computational and critical thinking skills and prepare them to create new technologies.  This fundamental knowledge in Computer Science prepares them for the 21st century workplace, regardless of their ultimate field of study or occupation.  Some of the topics that may be included in Computer Science courses include:  algorithms, data analysis, modeling, problem-solving, creating and manipulating graphics, coding or programming (including application or game design), security, web design, human-computer interaction, robotics and ethical issues. 

The three course sequence is designed to give a thorough background in all aspects of Computer Science and blends academic, technical and workplace skills to prepare to college or career. The POS contains a minimum of three credits and includes relevant courses and a capstone experience such as an internship or a college course.

Certifications/Awards for Completing High School Plan

Students have the potential to earn college credits with Advanced Placement course in the Program of Study as well as other college credits from Dual Enrollment courses.  Eligible students may also earn workplace experience through internship program.
