Committees

Basketball Tournament - Coordinate with RMS administration, building services, PE staff and volunteer committee to plan and execute fun basketball tournament for all 3 grades. T-shirts are created and given to all participants. Kids form co-ed teams of 3 and compete in double (or single depending on number of teams) elimination tournament of several 5 minute games. Prizes are awarded to the top team in each grade.  

Beautification - Responsible for organizing flower/mulch donations and for the general maintenance of the courtyard and area immediately in front of the school.

Bob Bucks Store – Communicate with RMS administration, staff and students to promote good behavior from students with positive rewards.  Coordinators purchase items and manage the bob bucks store during lunches.

Bobcat Bulletin- The editor solicits school and PTSA events and maintains a monthly calendar that is printed/emailed and distributed to students and parents.

Book Fair - Select a company to provide books to sell to students. Organize and run the book fair. Coordinate with school staff to arrange students tours of the fair.

Bulletin Board - Set up PTSA bulletin board in front of school. Add up to date information about PTSA events as needed.

Business Promotions - The Business Promotions Committee handles programs designed by big companies to raise money for our school. For instance, managing the “BoxTops” , Safeway, Escrip, Giant BonusBucks A+ enrollment, Harris Teeter Together in Education, the Campbell Soup Labels UPC program, Target: Take Charge of Education, Office Depot: 5% Back to Schools, and the printer cartridges recycling program. Volunteers help sort, tally and submit the boxtops and labels to the companies. This entails encouraging students to bring in receipts, tallying and submitting materials to companies. Work with the school staff in making selections of catalog items.

Cultural Arts - Attend the Fall exhibition and with school staff input, select several programs for bringing into the school during the year. Negotiate contracts with performers, help identify what equipment is available and needed for each performance, and work with school administration to find dates for performances.

Dance - Include representatives from each grade to sponsor the fall dance for students. Recruit chaperones and organize the dance sponsored by the PTSA. Separate 6th grade dance and 7th-8th grade dance.

Directory - In the fall, collect information from Guidance office and take to printer for the yearly directory of student names/addresses and school information. PTSA pays for a copy of the directory for each student.

Fundraising - Select a company, organize and run the yearly school fundraiser.

International Night - International Night is a chance for the RMS community to experience a sampling of other cultures. Exhibits are set up highlighting the cultures, music, and foods of a variety of countries. RMS families are encouraged to take part in the festival and contribute a song, something to display (maps, jewelry, china, everyday items) or prepare a finger food to share.

Kick Off Carnival - Coordinate with RMS administration, building services, external vendors and volunteer committee to plan and execute annual fall carnival. Party is held on a Friday in the fall after school, culminating in bus ride to QOHS for a football game. PTSA provides inflatables, games, dunk tank, music, refreshments, prizes and various fun contests. RMS provides food for purchase and staff to participate (in dunk tank). Tickets are sold in advance and include ticket to the QO football game and bus ride.

MCCPTA Delegate -. The MCCPTA monthly meetings provide an opportunity for delegates to present ideas, debate issues, become better informed, make personal contacts with other PTA leaders, and vote on MCCPTA actions. The delegate presents a brief review at the PTSA meetings.

Membership - Publicize availability and perks of PTSA membership to school community (students, parents and staff). Collect applications and dues, creating a list of members for yearly submission to MCCPTA and for use by social, directory and newsletter committees as well as the Executive Board.

NAACP Representative - Provides information, guidance and support to students and families for this specific program. NAACP representative works with the NAACP staff to distribute information via the Key Newsletter articles and student handouts. Represents RMS at countywide meetings. Quince Orchard Cluster Rep. - Represent Ridgeview one night a month at the Quince Orchard cluster meeting that includes representation from all elementary, middle and high schools feeding Quince Orchard HS. Present important information at Ridgeview PTSA meetings.

Reflections - The Reflections Program has inspired millions of students to reflect on a specific theme and create original artwork. Each year, students in Grades Pre-K through 12 are recognized for bringing the theme to life through dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography and visual arts.  Website:  http://mdpta.org/bridge_reflections.html

Restaurant Nights - The Restaurant Nights committee organizes dinners at area restaurants. These businesses donate a percentage of sales to RMS PTSA!

Special Needs – Coordinate with RMS administration and special education department.  Organize activities to support students in special education.

Spirit Wear - Sell Ridgeview clothing and spirit items. Work with distributor. Advertise, collect and distribute orders.

Staff Appreciation - Organize staff breakfast/luncheon and other PTSA activities to show appreciation for staff work with students.

Sunshine Committee - Extend expressions of congratulations, sympathy, and good wishes to staff members from the PTA, as appropriate.

Volunteers - Collect data from parent volunteer registration forms. Enter data into spreadsheet for use by PTSA committees and school staff as needed.
