Summer RISE is an initiative led by the Montgomery County Public Schools’ (MCPS) Department of Partnerships in collaboration with businesses, government agencies, higher education institutions, and nonprofit organizations.
It is a five week/50 hour program for rising MCPS juniors and seniors to participate in a career-based learning opportunity during the summer.
Each host teaches students about their organization and how it functions as a whole, then helps the student learn about careers within their organization. The experience exposes students to career field options and provides students with advice from adults in careers they may want to consider.
Montgomery County Public Schools, in collaboration with the MCPS Educational Foundation, Inc., coordinates the MCPS GIVE BACKpacks campaign.
This campaign seeks to raise money for the purchase of new backpacks filled with school supplies for students in need. Donations are accepted year round.
Montgomery County Public Schools has three action groups comprised of parents, MCPS staff and community stakeholders to provide a forum to address barriers to student success. These groups work collaboratively with MCPS leadership to ensure equitable access and practices for all MCPS students.

The African American Student Achievement Action Group (AASAAG) is a group of parents, MCPS staff, and community members committed to providing a continual, transparent forum between the African American community and MCPS. We work collaboratively to develop strategies to eliminate the African American academic achievement and opportunity gap in Montgomery County Public Schools. AASAAG has cited cultural proficiency, early interventions, and structural racism as the root causes of the achievement gap, and has centered the work of the group on these areas of focus.

APASAAG represents Asian Pacific American (APA) students and families from diverse ethnic groups, languages, cultures, immigration histories and socio-economic status. We work with MCPS and community stakeholders to support students and promote equitable educational opportunities for them to reach their fullest potential in the context of their unique challenges.
The Latino Student Achievement Action Group (LSAAG) was established by Montgomery County Public Schools and Latino parent and community activists to provide a continual, transparent forum, between Latino community stakeholders and MCPS policy and decision makers to work collaboratively on eliminating the Latino academic achievement gap.
