Learn More about Network of Diversity Group for NBCTs
The Blueprint for Maryland’s Future elevates the importance of National Board Certification (NBC) as an avenue for professional development and recognition of accomplished teaching for classroom-based teachers. While 30% of teachers in MCPS are teachers of color, only 22% of those who hold NBC are teachers of color.
To address this, MCPS has established a new group called the NBCT Network of Diversity (NNOD) for National Board Certified teachers and candidates of color. This group has been meeting to build relationships and support within the National Board community, discuss barriers, and generate ideas and solutions to increase diversity in the NBC pipeline.
MCPS recognizes that one way the system can support teachers of color in the NBC process is through the formation of an affinity group, which is meant to be a safe space for those who share a common race or heritage, to discuss mutual concerns and to help each other navigate the system.
