MCPS Student-Athletes at the National Level

Miss Grace Jennings (Winston Churchill), Folashade Epebinu, Kordei Aryeetey, and Juan Vera (Seneca Valley) represented both the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association (MPSSAA) and Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) at the National Federation of High Schools (NFHS) National Student-Athlete Leadership Summit (NSLS) this past July in Indianapolis, Indiana.

This conference is the only national student leadership summit for student-athletes.  The NSLS focused on relevant and contemporary issues affecting today’s students in education-based athletics.  Students  developed leadership skills while interacting with their peers from around the United States and other countries.  Information received at the conference assists with planning for the implementation of the 2022-2023 MCPS Student-Athlete Leadership Council.

Student-Athlete Leadership Council

The Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) Student-Athlete Leadership Council (SALC) maximizes the student-athlete education-based athletic experience in the classroom, community, and realm of competition by fostering leadership opportunities. The SALC cultivates academic, athletic, and community excellence by engaging student-athletes to serve as district level leaders within the MCPS education-based interscholastic athletics program. SALC members nurture academic, creative problem-solving, and social-emotional skills while serving as campus and community leaders exemplifying the RAISE core values. The SALC is comprised of two students from each of the twenty-five high schools. The first SALC meeting of  the school year is set for Tuesday, September 13, 2022.
