NATIONAL BOARD CERTIFICATION PROGRAM
MISSION & VISION
Create structures and supports that guide candidates on their pathway to achieve National Board Certification by:
- Actively focusing on ensuring a diverse pool of NBC candidates and National Board Certified Teachers in the district.
- Implementing structures to support candidates to understand their component directions and to stay on track throughout the year as they work on this independent project through Jump Start and component support courses.
- Provide candidates guidance and support in order to be able to access fee support to cover the cost of components.
FEE SUPPORT for INITIAL CANDIDATES
Initial candidates are those who are beginning the National Board process in the 2023-2024 school year. Window to apply for fee support to cover the cost of certification is now open through September 1, 2023. Late applications will not be accepted.

CONTINUING CANDIDATES
Continuing candidates are those who have already submitted components for National Board Certification last year and/or the year before. The below resources are for continuing candidates only.

MAINTENANCE OF CERTIFICATE(MOC)
The fee support application is for NBCTs who wish to work on MOC in the 2023-2024 school year because their National Board Certificate is expiring in 2024 or 2025. Click here to access resources and the application directions.

General Overview
Spring 2023 Information Session
- All fee support candidates are required to attend an Information Session or to view the recording
- In person sessions: 5/22, 5/24, 5/30
- Virtual session: 6/5

FEE SUPPORT PROGRAM
Cost of Certification
- Four components: Cost $475 each. Total: $1900
- Retakes cost $475-$500 each
- $75 annual NBPTS registration fee (non-refundable and non-reimbursable)
- CPD component support courses cost $60 each (non-refundable and non-reimbursable)
Fee Support Program
- All four components: Covered
- One retake per component: Covered
- NBPTS registration fee & CPD course: NOT Covered
- Teachers must meet the eligiblity criteria of the NBPTS and be in an eligible job code
- Application on Careers will open early June
Tuition Reimbursement
- Only available for those in an MCEA-level position
- Only those components paid out of pocket the year you achieve for candidates are reimbursable.

Maintenance of Certificate (MOC)
National Board Certified Teachers (NBCTs) must renew their certificate every 5 years (10 years for some teachers who certified in the past).
Submit one ePortfolio to NBPTS called MOC. MOC costs $495 plus a $75 registration fee. Candidates can work on MOC the last year or the year before the certificate expires.
Why recertify?
Blueprint for Maryland's Future legislation increases emphasis on NBC by expressing the desire for:

All teachers to hold NBC and providing salary supplements

All Administrators, including Principals, to hold or to be working toward achieving NBC.

Teachers and leaders who wish to move up the Career Ladder to either hold or be working toward NBC.
If you allow your NBC to lapse, you will need to start the process again as an initial candidate.
