Student Publishing Partnerships

The Student Publishing Partnerships program serves schools from across the district as they create printed journals and magazines.

Located within the MCPS print shop in Rockville, the program resources include industrial-grade digital printing technology, integrated with e-publishing. However, the print-media production experience we offer students is the highlight of our instructional support program.

MCPS Student publishing can be categorized as -
     • arts and literary journals,
     • magazines, and
     • unique publishing activities.

Most of the arts and literary journals are extracurricular club activities at the secondary level, while the periodic magazines are produced in high school journalism classes.

Program Curriculum Highlights

     • The key benefits of using a digital file management protocol
     • The structures associated with best practices in digital publishing, and how
those structures drive the print-media production process.

Program Approach

The program diligently follows the creative path set by the students. They benefit from first-hand experience with industry standards and from the creative input of MCPS staff.

Students leave the program armed with skills that will help them in future publishing endeavors, along with a portfolio of their work.

Feedback and Counsel

The program is fortunate to receive direct feedback and ongoing counsel from two current high school journalism teachers. We plan to publish current-events journalism by students from every MCPS high school in 2021.
