Dual Enrollment

Dual Enrollment is an innovative partnership begun in 2002 between Montgomery College and Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS). Dual Enrollment provide an opportunity for identified high achieving seniors at Wootton High School and partner school Gaithersburg High School to attend college classes during a regular school day on a high school satellite site. Students can earn full college credits for each class taken, and may take up to 2 college courses per semester. In 2005, Montgomery College and MCPS have expanded the Dual Enrollment program to include Kennedy and Seneca Valley high schools. Wootton and Gaithersburg students may take college classes at either Wootton or Gaithersburg sites. These college courses enhance and often supplement Advanced Placement classes offered at the high schools. All Dual Enrollment courses are taught by Montgomery College faculty.

Eligibility

Eligible students have, by the end of their junior year,

• Completed primarily all high school graduation requirements.
• Achieved a minimum SAT score of 550 on each section (reading, writing and math).
• Earned a minimum weighted grade point average of 3.2.
• Successfully completed at least one AP class prior to senior year or plans to take at least one AP class senior year.

An appeals process exists for highly motivated students whose records fall slightly below the criteria.

Financial Aid

Each family is responsible for paying the costs of tuition, fees and books for any course(s) taken. Montgomery College offers various forms of financial assistance through its Office of Student Financial Aid.

Partners

Dual Enrollment is an innovative partnership between Montgomery College and Montgomery County Public Schools since 2002. Montgomery College faculty teach these college classes, that run throughout the fall and spring, to qualified high school seniors on the high school satellite campus. Classroom space is provided by Montgomery College (and Wootton High School as needed). This program provides for a Director from Montgomery College and an assistant who oversees the high school programs. Each high school has its own part-time Coordinator, who is supported and guided by one of the high school administrators.
