The Walt Whitman Writing Center assists all students to improve their writing. Students are welcome to drop-in or schedule an appointment. English Department Composition Assistants and trained parent volunteers provide one-on-one support to:
- Review writing prompts and rubrics to clarify understanding of assignments
- Brainstorm to establish clear theses and logical supports
- Find and evaluate valid sources
- Work on organization and structure
- Incorporate meaningful textual or research support with correct parenthetical citations
- Understand research strategies and MLA style
- Improve grammar, syntax, and vocabulary
The Writing Center is not a proofreading or a re-writing service; we work with students to help them learn to become confident, competent, and resourceful writers.
