Universal Meals at Weller Road ES
The Division of Food & Nutrition (DFNS) is excited to announce that Weller Road now offers Universal Lunch. The Universal Meals pilot rolled out in 2018 at 17 schools. We are very excited to grow the program by adding 8 additional schools, one of which is Weller Road. The Universal Lunch initiative is funded by The Division of Food and Nutrition Services. In addition to the already federally funded Maryland Meals of Achievement breakfast program (MMFA) that provides all students breakfast at no cost. Beginning August 28, 2023 the ‘price’ of the meal for students who normally pay for lunch will be $0.00.
Even though all meals will be free at Weller Road ES for this school year, families will still need to fill out the Free and Reduced Meals Application. The information this application generates provides other service opportunities to families with the lowest incomes. It also provides the school with income to hire staff to lower class sizes and provide for small intervention groups to help with reading and math. Only one application is needed for all students in a household. A new application must be completed each school year.
