Administration
Welcome to Sherwood Elementary School!
Sherwood ES 2023-24 Entry Plan
Dear Sherwood Elementary School Families and Community:
I am excited to introduce myself as Principal of Sherwood Elementary School, effective April 20, 2023. As the Principal I look forward to uplifting the academic growth and social-emotional wellbeing of our students and staff. I am thrilled to work with you and your student(s) for the remainder of the year.
For the past eighteen years, I have served and led in a variety of capacities in Montgomery County Public Schools, starting my professional career as a middle school science teacher. I have spent the last seven years as an assistant school administrator, assistant principal, and principal intern at Westland Middle School, and acting principal at North Chevy Chase Elementary School. I earned national board certification in early adolescent science and have worked in the role of classroom teacher, grade level team leader, department chair, and county-wide instructional specialist for science, technology, and engineering.
I am excited to return to elementary school after working at Westland Middle School as the Assistant Principal.
Now, I am a proud member of the Sherwood community! I look forward to collaborating with families and the community as we support a healthy, safe, and nurturing learning environment. I am excited to support the staff as we continue to foster a community of high expectations and achievement for all students.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at Jason_A_Jefferson@mcpsmd.org.
Mr. Jason Jefferson
Principal
Hello Sherwood Families! I am so excited to be your assistant principal! Here is a little information about who I am. I grew up in Maryland and went to Howard County Public Schools for my entire K-12 schooling. I graduated from Long Reach High School and went on to graduate from Towson University with an Elementary Education degree
I began my teaching career where my schooling began, in Howard County. I taught 3rd and 4th grades for seven years, before serving as a Reading Specialist for 5 years. This is my third year with Montgomery County Public Schools and my third year as an Assistant Principal.
Building relationships, I believe, is the foundation to providing an equitable education for all of our students
. As Assistant Principal, I have facilitated programs here at the school whose aim is to address the social emotional wellbeing of our students. I look forward to continuing to work with our PTA and other community partners to make Sherwood ES a place where all children feel included and have a sense of belonging.
If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, feel free to reach out to me, and I thank
you for entrusting us with your most valuable asset everyday.
Sincerely,
Matthew Vaughn-Smith (“Mr.V-S”)
