Welcome to 4th grade!
This year in Language Arts we will be learning how to use the 6 traits of writing and various reading strategies. We will develop new vocabulary, think critically and explain our reasoning using textual support.
In Math we will learn and perfect our basic facts. Please help your child review these each night as it is imperative for success (especially multiplication and division). Throughout the year students will explore several math units starting with place value, graphing and geometry! They will be expected to justify their responses through writing and student discourse.
In Social Studies we will be learning about Native Americans and migration to the New World. In Science we will be studying ecosystems, earth materials, and matter.
We have an exciting and fascinating year ahead of us! We can’t wait to share it with you!
Meet the 4th Grade Teachers
Mr. Glaser(team leader)
Mrs Whirley
This will be Mrs. Whirley's first year teaching, but she has been a substitute teacher and paraeducator in the County since 2015. She is super excited to join the Sequoyah staff as a Math and Science instructor. As a University of Maryland alumus, she holds a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture and a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and will be completing a Masters in Elementary Education in 2020. She lives in Derwood with her husband, Chip, and her two daughters, Hayden and Caitlyn, who attended Sequoyah when they were elementary age. They are now both at Magruder High School! Mrs. Whirley grew up on a dairy farm in Maryland and currently has chickens, goats and one dog named Bailey. She enjoys gardening, singing, listening to music and photography when she is not reading for work or school!
Mrs. Schultz
Hello! I am Linda Schultz, I teach fourth and fifth grade students at Sequoyah. As a child, I knew that I wanted to be a teacher and worked tirelessly to achieve that goal. I love teaching and working with children and their families! Going into my 20th year of teaching, I can continue to say that this is an amazing everchanging career! As a lifelong learner, one of my passions is to help my students find their passions and voice to become leaders in their own lives and communities. I believe that each person can lead and I hope to help that inner leader grow!
Mrs. Puri

I was born and raised in Montgomery County and proceeded to get my bachelor’s and master’s degrees in state from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County and Johns Hopkins University. My husband and I are proud parents of two little boys whom keep us very busy! In my spare time, I love to read and travel. I look forward to a great year.
