School Counseling Program
Classroom Guidance
Visiting each classroom to facilitate discussions and activities about topics that include expressing feelings, managing conflicts, and developing perseverance. Ask your child to see what the focus of the month will be in your student's grade level.
Individual and Small-Group Counseling
Short-term, individual and small-group counseling may cover topics such as grief, anger management, or conflict resolution. Referrals to the counseling office are initiated based on student, teacher, or parent concerns. Any student involved in small-group or short-term individual counseling will need parental approval.
Restorative Justice
Restorative Justice is implemented throughout MCPS. It builds community, self-care, while conflict resolution.
It is a social justice platform that allows students involved to:
- Actively engage
- Show respect to all parties involved
- Empower victims and shows equal concern for their needs
- Supports students who have harmed others, while encouraging them to take personal responsibility
- Encourage collaboration
- Work with those affected to restore and/or repair
