Who was Lois P. Rockwell?
Lois Rockwell was an elementary science teacher in Montgomery County from 1967 until 1972. She was a graduate of Colby College with a master’s degree in education.
She left teaching to raise a family, but remained active in the school system by volunteering at Cedar Grove Elementary School.
In 1982 she was president of the PTA at Cedar Grove. She was on the planning committee to renovate the school, as well as many other PTA committees.
She was also very active in other Damascus organizations and was a member of Damascus United Methodist Church, where she coordinated and taught Vacation Bible School.
Just as she began to pursue re-certification to return to the classroom she was killed in a tragic vehicle accident in Florida while visiting Walt Disney World with her children. A scholarship was set up at Baker Middle School in her name to provide financial assistance to middle school students who wished to take part in summer enrichment programs.
Lois Rockwell was survived by her husband Bob, and two sons, Bobby and John.
