Welcome to the December edition of the MYP Minute for Richard Montgomery High School! The goal of this newsletter is to keep you informed of the events and activities that are taking place in the school with a focus on our MYP students. All 9th and 10th graders at Richard Montgomery participate in the IB Middle Years Programme. If you’re new to the MYP, the MYP Guide for Parents is a brief summary of the hallmarks of the program.
Learner Profile of the Month
The IB Learner Profile is a set of ten traits that are the focus of students’ personal development in all IB programs. In the month of December, the Richard Montgomery community is focusing on activities and events that support the IB Learner Profile trait of being “knowledgeable.” As IB learners:
We develop and use conceptual understanding, exploring knowledge across a range of disciplines. We engage with issues and ideas that have local and global significance.
Upcoming events

School Events Season
December is the season of all kinds of events for our talented MYP students - the return of winter instrumental and choral music concerts, winter athletics, our RM Idol singing competition and other events has been great to see. At the same time, classes have been engaging in a variety of interesting projects. Clubs and organizations around the school are up to all kinds of things - now is a great time to get involved for the second semester.
Personal Project Updates
Personal Projects are ongoing throughout the next few months, and at this point students should be working on a refined version of their final goal or project outcome. Students’ Canvas classroom for the Personal Project contains all of the necessary information on the project, as well as templates and lesson resources to support them in their process. Students in need of support can always speak with their project supervisor, or stop by the IB office to check in with Ms. Clarkson. Students should plan to be working towards meeting their final goal or completing their project outcome by the end of January. In January and February, they work on consolidating their learning process and presenting it in their project report and exhibition. All materials are also posted on the Personal Project website, in addition to the Canvas classroom.
