Academic Services
The following academic services are available in order to help students who need additional assistance with their work.
GLAD Sessions - Every Tuesday students have the opportunity to make up work in sessions following a particular class period.
High School Plus - High School Plus is a program that enables students who have failed courses required for graduation to retake these courses for credit in their home schools. There is no fee for students enrolling in the High School Plus program.
Interim Instructional Services - Interim Instructional Services (IIS) is a short term instructional program for students with a health condition that prevents them from attending school. Students are required to be under the care of a physician, psychologist, or psychiatrist. IIS enables students to continue academic studies, aligned with the Montgomery County Public Schools curriculum, during their treatment or recuperation time out of school. IIS is not intended to take the place of regular school.
National Honor Society - National Honor Society provides tutoring for students. Questions? Contact the National Honor Society sponsor Ms. Bissett at Jamie_A_Bisset@mcpsmd.org.
Office Hours - If students are in need of individual assistance, they should see the appropriate teacher during office hours which are provided at various times during lunch or after school.
Saturday School - The core program of the George B. Thomas, Sr. Learning Academy, Saturday School offers tutoring and mentoring in reading/language arts, mathematics, and test-taking skills for students in grades 1-12. Classes are held at Northwood, Mongtomery Blair, Einstein, Gaithersburg, Kennedy, Northwest, Magruder, Paint Branch, Rockville, Sherwood, Springbrook, Watkins Mill, and Wheaton. Questions? Writing Center - The writing center (located in A219) is available for students who need help writing essays for class. The English composition assistants are available to review student work during lunch and fifth period.
Specific Concerns
If students/parents have specific concerns about a grade, the student and/or parent can contact the teacher and/or counselor through email or by telephone. Feel free to make an appointment to set up a meeting. Counselors are assigned by grade and last name of student. See counseling assignments here.
