NMS National Junior Honor Society

Induction Process
- Eligible students will receive application information via email in the Spring (May) of their 6th grade year.
- Completed applications are considered and then either accepted or rejected by a faculty counsel.
- Accepted students are inducted in the Fall and membership continues through 8th grade. During 8th grade, members will be expected to maintain their GPA, attend meetings, and participate in service projects.
About National Junior Honor Society
The National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) is a national organization established to recognize outstanding middle school students. More than just an honor roll, NJHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, Character, and Citizenship. (Who We Are | NJHS)
The purpose of this organization shall be to create enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote leadership, to develop character, and to encourage citizenship in students of Neelsville Middle School.
The following indicators of the five pillars serve as a framework for selection rather than a checklist of items that must be fulfilled.
NJHS Membership Selection Criteria
Students will be considered for the NJHS selection based on the following indicators:
I. Scholarship
- A cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher
II. Leadership
- Successfully holding school offices or positions of responsibility
- Leading in the classroom and in other school or community activities
III. Service
- Participating in some service or charitable activity outside of school (at least 30 SSL hours)
- Mentoring people in the community or students at other schools
- Helping with any request made by staff to help support our school community
- Volunteering to provide assistance whenever needed
IV. Citizenship
- Understanding the importance of civic involvement
- Having a high regard for freedom, justice, and democracy
- Involvement with such activities as community organizations and school
V. Character
- Upholding our core values of respect, responsibility, and integrity
- Complying with school rules
