Financial Obligations & Online School Payments
School Payments
If you would like the convenience of paying for your child's school fees, field trips, PE uniforms, etc. using your debit or credit card online, using a web browser from any location, 24 hours a day, click here to pay online. Please note that a 3.75% fee will be added to the purchase price of a school purchase as a site service fee. District items such as the Extracurricular Activity Fee are not charged the fee. This fee is not collected by MCPS, but is a processing fee of the company hosting the site.
Financial Obligations
Students are expected to return all textbooks, equipment, and uniforms and pay for all class fees and library fines before the end of each semester/sports season. The student must return these items to the teacher/coach who issued them as only that person can clear the student prior to issuing an obligation. Students who owe money for lost or damaged texts, materials, library books, etc. will be charged the replacement or damage cost as appropriate. This includes lost locks, replacement agenda books, loaned lunch money, etc. If a student owes a financial obligation to the school s/he will not be permitted to participate in events or activities that charge admission or a fee including dances, field trips, basketball games, etc. until the obligation is paid. (This includes end-of-year activities such as promotion ceremony tickets and 8th grade trips.) Fourth marking period report cards will be held until obligations have been cleared for the year. Families with economic hardship should contact the counselor or administrator.
If items are not returned or paid for at the appropriate time, teachers and coaches issue obligations which are processed in the Finance Office. Once the obligation has been issued to the student, the outstanding items should be returned or payment made directly to the Finance Office where the obligation can be canceled.
It is extremely important that students follow the above procedures. Items returned to any other location will not be processed and the student will not be credited with the return or payment. At that point, it will be necessary for the student to find the book with the correct number in the department storage room or find the teacher to verify that the book was returned.
All outstanding obligations must be paid in order for students to participate in extracurricular activities. Additionally, 8th graders with outstanding obligations will not be permitted to participate in end of year activities including the end of year trip and receiving promotion tickets.
Returned Checks
As of January, 2013 all MCPS schools are to charge a $25.00 returned check fee. The fee is to cover charges to MCPS by our bank as well as the time for collection and handling of the replacement check. If a check is returned, a letter will be sent by mail to the parent/guardian with the initial amount of the check and the total now due to the school. The student will receive an obligation for this amount and all obligation rules will be in effect.
