Military Options

    The Career Center provides information all branches of the U.S. armed services, active duty and reserves in addition to the Federal and State National Guard.     The military academies to which students may apply are:

     

    U.S. Naval Academy

    The Naval Academy has seen a decline in JROTC applications this year from Maryland; as a result, the deadline is being extended for final submission until February 28, 2021. In addition, for the class of 2025, they will have a test-flexible policy, meaning that students without SAT/ACT scores will have a fair chance at competition for admission. Being graded only on what the students have accomplished in the classroom and in their extracurricular activities may be the competitive boost needed for admission to the Naval Academy.

    The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) test is a career assessment for military and civilian jobs. The Career Center usually hosts the ASVAB test once a semester. Once the results are in, there will be an interpretation of scores offered to the student.

    Military Scholarships

    Several branches of the military offer scholarships for students who chose to participate in Reserve Officer Training programs:

    • Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) scholarships are offered at hundreds of colleges and universities across the nation. They are awarded on a competitive basis to entering freshmen.
    • Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC) college scholarship program targets students pursuing technical degrees, such as certain engineering and science programs. AFROTC scholarships are awarded on the basis of individual merit, not financial need.
    • Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC) program offers young men and women an opportunity to qualify for commissions in the Navy and Marine Corps while attending college. This four-year scholarship is available to recent high school graduates and is awarded annually on the basis of high school class standings, college entrance test scores, extracurricular activities, and leadership skills.
