HHMS EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

The Extracurricular Activities (ECA) program is an integral part of the total education experience for middle school students. After school clubs, activities, athletics, and academic support provide students with opportunities to explore new areas of interest, cultivate and enhance existing skills, and grow both socially and academically in a safe and supportive environment.

This year at HHMS, we are offering a variety of after-school experiences for our students. Most activities will take place on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday from 3:10-4:20. We will have activity buses running each day at 4:30 to take students home. Details for the 2022-2023 ECA program are available in the presentation below.

HHMS Athletics Program

2023-2024 School Year

The middle school interscholastic athletics program is available for students in seventh, and eighth grade and consists of three sport seasons, including fall (cross country and softball), winter (basketball), and spring (soccer). All students participating in the fall season, as part of the MCPS interscholastic athletics program, must complete the online registration process.  Announcements will be made in school when registration opens for each season. Students and parents/guardians who have difficulty with registration should contact the Athletic Coordinator Laura Hamilton  Laura_M_Hamilton@mcpsmd.org.

Registration
Registration for the upcoming middle school athletics 2023 Fall season (boys’ and girls’ softball and coed cross county) will be submitted through the ParentVue Portal, opening at noon on, August 15, 2023. Students should complete their pre-participation physical (MCPS Form SR-8) so that the medical eligibility form (last page of SR-8) is ready for online submission via the ParentVue Portal, prior to tryouts/practices. This form is valid for two years from the date of the exam and covers participation for all sports within that time period. This form must be completed and/or on file before a student-athlete can participate. Fall sports tryouts/practices begin September 12, 2023.

PRE-PARTICIPATION PHYSICAL FOR ATHLETICS

The Pre-Participation Physical for Athletics is a form that needs to be completed by a doctor in order to participate in tryouts and is completely different from immunization records that are given to the school health room. This form is good for two years. Each student needs to have a copy of this uploaded in the online registration before tryouts. Paper copies will not be accepted. This form is also linked in the online registration form and should be uploaded there. Please have the physical done and ready to upload BEFORE you register. PAPER COPIES WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

TRYOUT INFORMATION:
Middle school interscholastic sports is more competitive than participatory. This means that there are tryouts based on skill in order to be selected for that team. The tryouts start on the date listed below . It is not a meeting. Students need to be prepared to physically participate on that date. Tryouts typically last 3 days and students must attend every day of tryouts.

Equipment needed for tryouts:

Softball: glove and cleats

Basketball: athletic shoes/shorts/t-shirt

Soccer: cleats, own ball is optional
