Hello Flower Hill Community,

 My name is Travis Payne. I am excited to join the Flower Hill Community as a Principal Intern for this upcoming school year. A principal intern fulfills the role of the assistant principal while taking on additional responsibilities and learning under the principal in preparation to be a principal in the near future. I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself to you. 

I am the lucky and proud husband of an MCPS educator. Together we have a 2 year old daughter who is the absolute joy of my life. We have two wonderful dogs.

Next year will be my 13^th year in education. I spent my first seven years as a classroom teacher in Howard County (3^rd, 4^th, and 5^th grade). I came over to Montgomery County in 2018. I spent two years as a third grade teacher at JoAnn Leleck Elementary School at Broad Acres and one year as a fourth grade teacher at Glen Haven Elementary School. For the past two years I was the Assistant Principal at Flora M. Singer Elementary School. I am an alumnus of Towson University (undergrad) and McDaniel College (Master’s). I serve on the leadership team of BOND (Building Our Network for Diversity), a group focused on retaining, mentoring, and empowering male teachers of color.

 As an administrator, I pride myself on being present and approachable. My love and joy for education is built on a foundation of strong relationships with students and colleagues. I look forward to working and collaborating with you in order to best support the goals you have for your students. I am hopeful to continue building on Flower Hill’s inclusive and innovative community by bringing my experiences of creating equitable structures, promoting instructional growth, and developing growth mindset mentalities.

 I had the opportunity to visit the Hill multiple times towards the end of the 2022-23 school year. I am excited, encouraged, and ready to join this amazing community. Even at the end of the year, I felt rejuvenated and motivated by what I saw. While I wasn’t able to interact with everyone, the joy visible on students faces is a true testament of the amazing culture and community that is being built at Flower Hill.

Mi nombre es Travis Payne. Estoy emocionada de unirme a la comunidad de Flower Hill como directora en prácticas para este próximo año escolar. Un pasante principal cumple el papel de subdirector mientras asume responsabilidades adicionales y aprende con el director en preparación para ser director en un futuro cercano. Quería tomarme un momento para presentarme.

Soy el afortunado y orgulloso esposo de una educadora de MCPS. Juntos tenemos una hija de 2 años que es la alegría absoluta de mi vida. Tenemos dos perros maravillosos.

El próximo año será mi 13° año en educación. Pasé mis primeros siete años como maestra de aula en el condado de Howard (3.°, 4.° y 5.° grado). Vine al condado de Montgomery en 2018. Pasé dos años como maestra de tercer grado en la escuela primaria JoAnn Leleck en Broad Acres y un año como maestra de cuarto grado en la escuela primaria Glen Haven. Durante los últimos dos años fui subdirectora de la escuela primaria Flora M. Singer. Soy ex alumno de la Universidad de Towson (licenciatura) y McDaniel College (maestría). Sirvo en el equipo de liderazgo de BOND (Construyendo nuestra red para la diversidad), un grupo enfocado en retener, asesorar y empoderar a los maestros varones de color.

Como administrador, me enorgullezco de estar presente y accesible. Mi amor y alegría por la educación se construye sobre la base de relaciones sólidas con estudiantes y colegas. Espero poder trabajar y colaborar con usted para apoyar mejor las metas que tiene para sus estudiantes. Tengo la esperanza de continuar construyendo sobre la comunidad inclusiva e innovadora de Flower Hill aportando mis experiencias en la creación de estructuras equitativas, promoviendo el crecimiento educativo y desarrollando mentalidades de mentalidad de crecimiento.

Tuve la oportunidad de visitar Hill varias veces hacia el final del año escolar 2022-23. Estoy emocionado, animado y listo para unirme a esta increíble comunidad. Incluso al final del año, me sentí rejuvenecido y motivado por lo que vi. Si bien no pude interactuar con todos, la alegría visible en los rostros de los estudiantes es un verdadero testimonio de la increíble cultura y comunidad que se está construyendo en Flower Hill.
