Online Resources Access
You can access the Candlewood Library Catalog from any connected device to search for books, check your account, or place holds. Candlewood's Virtual Library also has lots of online tools and resources you can use to work, learn, and play at home.
Montgomery County Public Schools purchases online database subscriptions for student use to support instruction. Access the MCPS Databases to research an interesting topic. To access the usernames and passwords, click the following links: English Version, Spanish Version. You must access the link using a MCPS Google account (mcpsmd.net). Directions for logging into an MCPS Google Account from home can be found on the MCPS website.
Library Instruction
At Candlewood, library instruction is scheduled weekly. Students have a set time each week when they come to the library for a lesson and a designated book checkout time. Instructional topics include digital citizenship, literature appreciation and evaluation, and computer science topics.However, the library is open to all students every day for book return and checkout should they want to come in outside of their class's time.
Black-Eyed Susan Award
The Black-Eyed Susan Award is a children's choice award for the state of Maryland. The BES Award honors outstanding picture books and chapter books – each year 15 picture books and 10 chapter books are nominated. Students in the state of Maryland vote for the winning book in each category – that is what makes this Award program so exciting!
Special Occasion Book Club
Help raise money to buy new books for the media center and celebrate a special occasion at the same time. For a donation of only $10.00 your child can choose a new book for the media center collection. Send the special occasion book club form to the media center to participate.
