Cell Phone USe and Safety

As a school and society, we continually address cell phone safety with students, especially in grades 3 through 5. In regard to cell phones the safety issues that we have addressed over the past couple of years are as follows: cyber bullying, texting with other students in the middle of the night, sending inappropriate videos during off school hours, and taking pictures of other students without their permission. Please note that 99% of the incidents occurred while students were at home, but always impacted the school day. As a school and PTA we will be providing educational opportunities for both parents and students, we need you to also start and continue to have conversations with your child(ren) about cell phone safety.

During Open House, we will provide students with contracts to carry cell phones on the school grounds. This contract must be signed by a parent, returned to school and submitted to the Principal to be valid.

Here are some safety tips to discuss with your child(rent):

  • Never share personal information online.
  • Don’t respond to emails, texts, or messages from strangers.
  • Don’t post or share photos online.
  • Don’t click links, open attachments, or accept gifts from someone you don’t know.
  • Never agree to meet someone you met online.
  • Let your parents or another trusted adult know if you need help.
