Principal's Message

August 1, 2023

Dear Ashburton Families,

We are excited to welcome everyone back for the 2023-24 school year and have been preparing for a smooth return with a lot of planning, cleaning, enrolling new students, and hiring staff. This letter contains information and links for the start of the school year. A postcard was also mailed to the community with a QR code to access this welcome letter. We are waiting for bus transportation from MCPS and will attach the routes as soon as they are shared.

Welcome to the new families who are joining our wonderful community. You will find that Ashburton is an excellent school with a dedicated staff, an involved community, a supportive PTA, and students who exhibit Top Quality (TQ) characteristics in academics and social-emotional development. Our students come from all over the world and bring a rich diversity and experiences to the school. We look forward to meeting your children and family over the next month.

Ashburton’s (New) Administrative Team

We are happy to introduce the new administrative team: Monique B. Reese, principal, Dr. Cliff Cooper, assistant principal, and Ashley Kinney, assistant school administrator. Mrs. Reese is entering her sixteenth year as a school administrator with experience in school districts around the DMV area. She previously served as Ashburton’s assistant principal and acting principal. Dr. Cooper taught at the middle and high school levels, including some time at North Bethesda Middle School. He has been in school administration for seven years and looks forward to meeting the community. Mrs.Kinney has held several positions at Harmony Hills Elementary School, including acting assistant principal and student support specialist. She is excited to begin her time here at Ashburton.

New Digital Board

Thank you to the amazing PTA for collaborating with the school on the purchase of the new electronic sign. Your PTA president, Vijay Nagarajan, and Principal, Monique Reese, along with the 2022-23 Executive Board, led the way to fund a new sign for the school. As soon as the power and fiber get installed, it will be up and running with timely information. The board will assist with communicating important information to the community.
